The Farmer In The Dell

The Farmer In The Dell is one of the very funny and most popular nursery rhymes of all time. It is almost 200 years old. This song also refers to a singing game. The origin of this poem is Germany and in no time, it became famous all over the world, especially in the USA.

In the singing game, one person becomes a farmer and the rest forms a circle around the farmer holding each other’s hands. As the game proceeds, the farmer chooses his wife and dances with her. The wife chooses a child and dances along with the child. In the meanwhile, the farmer goes back and joins the circle. The process continues in the same way. The child chooses the nurse and starts to dance with her. Likewise, the nurse chooses the cow and dances with her. The cow chooses the dog and dances along with the dog. The dog chooses the cat, the cat chooses the mouse. All of them dance one by one till the cheese stands alone in the end. The cheese becomes the winner and the winner chooses the farmer for the next round. Also, read Ring Around The Rosie.

A little something for the parents:

Poems should be an integral part of your child’s growing process as they make their lives more colorful and vibrant by adding a variety of rich experiences. So, every child should be encouraged to read more and more poems.
