Summary:
In Hush Little Baby Song, the singer here is trying to put a baby to sleep. And so the lullaby begins with the singing and asking the little baby to stop crying and to go to sleep. In return, a mockingbird is promised to the child as a reward. Then the narrator continues and says that is the mockingbird, which is a bird with a talent to mimic and copy words, doesn’t sing she, the mother who is singing, shall buy the baby a diamond ring. The mother continues to sing that if the diamond ring turns to brass, meaning the ring loses its shiny color, then the child’s mother would buy the child a looking a glass. Looking glass means a mirror.
Further, the mother tells the child that if the mirror gets broken, the mother would get the child a billy goat. And if that billy goat does not move, the mother would buy a bull and a cart for the child. Then she sings and says that if it so happens that the cart turns over along with bull, the mother would buy the child a dog and name it Rover. You may also like to read, Rock-A-Bye Baby Song.
And if Rover the dog, would not bark, the mother would buy a horse and a cart for the little child. The mother goes on to tell the child that if the horse should fall down with its cart, then it still wouldn’t matter for the child would still be loved by the mother and the father. And the child will also be the sweetest baby in the town.
A little something for the parents:
Poems should be an integral part of your child’s growing process as they make their lives more colorful and vibrant by adding a variety of rich experience. So, every child should be encouraged to read more and more poems.
